a scenic journey around the Wakatipu
Basin, from Queenstown, and visit
the local film locations for the Lord
of the Rings with the One
Ring Trilogy Trail™.
You will be driven by a professional
driver guide and stop at each location
site to take in the scenery and hear
the stories of the filming.
This is a road tour where you will
see such locations around the Queenstown
area for the River Anduin (the Kawarau
River Gorge and Bungi bridge), Argonath
the Pillars of the Kings (the Kawarau
River Gorge and Bungi bridge), Ford
of Bruinen (the Arrow River) and Rohan
(Penninsula Hill) and the battle ground
of the Orcs and the members of the
Fellowship at Amon Hen (Closeburn).
This is a great way to see the local
area and would be especially good
combined with one of the flight options.

The Glenorchy
Air Two Ring Trilogy Trail™
is a local scenic flight
that takes you to land at the lush
forest
areas at the head of the lake that
were used to portray Lothlorien at
Paradise, and Dunharrow at the Greenstone.
Glenorchy Air flew cast and crew to
these places and can tell you the
stories of the filming.
Starting
in Queenstown the Two
Ring Trilogy Trail™
first stops at the head of Lake Wakatipu,
at Paradise. This was a location for
Lothlorien, the Battle of Amon
Hen, and Isengard.
Taking off from Paradise the vistas
are truly spectacular with glaciers
such as the Earnslaw, Grant and Jura
visible as you climb over the Dart
river and Dan's Paddock, where Gandalf's
Ride to Isengard was filmed.
From the Dart River Valley the tour
arrives over the Greenstone Valley,
the location of Dunharrow which features
in the last film.
Another 10 minutes flying takes you
over Mavora Lakes, the location of
the settings such as: The Lawn of
Parth Galen, the lake of Nen Hithoel
and Amon Lhaw. After that it is on
to one of the Rohan locations and
then back to Queenstown but not before
passing the location of Ithlien and
another of the Rohan locations. |

This trail
is for the Lord of the connoisseur.
Journeying through the stark beauty
of the central South Island. It includes
three landing at major movie locations
and lunch at the remote Mt Potts station.
The Three Ring Trilogy
Trail™ lands at
three separate places. The first location
is the Rohan locations for Aragorn
Gimli and Legolas's tracking of the
Saruman's Orcs across the Plains of
Rohan, the location for the burning
Rohan village and the location for
Aragorn's first meeting with Eomer.
The second landing is at the
Edoras location at Mt. Potts where
the tour stops for lunch. The tour
then lands right in the middle of
the third location - Pelennor
fields. This area near Twizel in the
Mckenzie Country was also the location
of the "Battle Before the Black Gates".
Not
only will you see the the locations
that feature in the film you will
get to see New Zealand's Middle Earth
in a way that is only possible from
the air.
From the magnificent sweep of the
Southern Alps that stretch south from
Mt D'Archiac past Mt Tasman
and Aoraki, Mt Cook to
as far south as Mt Aspiring (Tititea).
As well as flying through the vast
landscape of the Mckenzie basin and
over the sky blue waters of lakes
Tekapo and Pukaki. The Mckenzie Country
is the location for the Pelennor Fields. The
tour also flies through the gold fields
and over the Vineyards of Central
Otago a semi desert area, which is
one of the locations for Rohan.
Weather permitting you will
get to fly along the main divide of
the Southern Alps past the snow fields
and Glaciers all on your way from
location to location.

Air is a family business run by Janet and Robert
Rutherford. Robert grew up in the area and knows
it very well. His ancestors arrived here from
Scotland in the 1860s to mine for gold. Glenorchy
Air was started in 1992, so they are in our 11th
year of operation.
Glenorchy Air are uniquely placed to share their
knowledge and love of the area with their guests.
Glenorchy Air have the flexibility to fit in with
your requirements, so long as safety is not compromised.
Glenorchy Air specialises in providing the highest
standard of personal, friendly service to clients
who travel in groups of no more than six per aircraft.
The pilots that Glenorchy Air employ have a love
of this area and are skilled at flying in the
mountains. All Glenorchy Air's aircraft are fitted
with individual head sets so the clients are able
to hear the pilots informative commentary.
